Onix React Pickleball Paddle Review

The Onix React Pickleball Paddle is a heavyweight pickleball paddle built to deliver huge-hitting power when you strike the pickleball overhead or from the back of the court. Using Onix Pickleball’s Hybrid Fusion Core technology, the Onix React has a core base built from polypropylene which delivers epic power, while the sweet-spot is made of a Nomex insert, giving the paddle ‘pop’ and control. While the Onix React is a heavy-hitting paddle, the Onix React is constructed using lightweight materials that help to keep the paddle fast, mobile and easy to move with. On top of this, the Onix React features a wide-bodied design, with an 8″ wide paddle face. This ensures there is a huge hitting area on the paddle, giving you control wherever you’re striking the ball on-court. Weighing in at between 7.9 – 8.3 ounces, the Onix React is heavier than other Onix Pickleball Paddles, however, this is compensated by the additional hitting-power you generate when smashing the pickleball.

Paddle Face & Edge Guard

The Onix React Pickleball Paddle has a graphite pickleball face that features a Nomex insert. This patent-pending technology helps to deliver the optimal combination of power and touch when ball-striking. Many of the best players out there love the touch and feel of a graphite pickleball paddle with a polypropylene core. However, miss the inclusion of a Nomex Honeycomb structure at the core of the paddle found in models like the Onix Z5. The Onix React solves this dilemma by building a Nomex insert into the paddle face itself. In doing so, Onix has created a hard-hitting paddle that ensures you still maintain control when playing more intricate shots.

The edge guard around the perimeter of the paddle has a 1/4″ overlapping edge to help protect the graphite against miss-hits on hard court surfaces, and the Fusion Core technology at the heart of the paddle enhances the quality of contact when hitting with the edge of the paddle face. If you’re looking for a paddle that hits like the Z5 but features a polypropylene core, then check out the Onix React Pickleball Paddle.

Paddle Core

The Onix React Pickleball Paddle utilizes Onix Pickleball’s Fusion Core Technology. This technology combines a polypropylene core with a Nomex insert built into the sweet-spot on the paddle face. By combining polypropylene with Nomex, Onix has created a paddle that benefits from both materials. Firstly, it is hard-hitting and very capable of generating significant power from the back of the court and overhead, while the Nomex insert gives more control when playing delicate shots around the net – especially dinks and spin shots. In addition, the Nomex insert is great at giving you the touch and sensation of a paddle that generated ‘pop’ when striking the pickleball. While the Onix React is heavier than other pickleball paddles in the Onix range, it is still light enough to move quickly with, and to react fast to strong opponent play.

Dimensions & Weight

The Onix React Pickleball Paddle weighs between 7.9 – 8.3 ounces, with an average paddle weight of 8.1 ounces. This makes the Onix React heavier than other Onix paddles, yet still makes the Onix React a medium-weight paddle. While you’re carrying a bit more paddle weight, you get more power from the base of the court when striking the pickleball – which is greater enhanced with Onix’s Fusion Core. The React measures 15 1/2″ long, and 8″ across the paddle face. This wide boy paddle design gives you plenty of space on the paddle face to connect with winning shots, and the overall dimensions of the Onix React allow for a large, over-sized sweet-spot. Like many of the best Onix Paddles, the Onix React is a very well-designed and proportioned pickleball paddle.

Handle & Grip

The Onix React Pickleball Paddle has a 5″ tennis-like flared, wood paddle handle. The shape mimics a tennis racquet handle and the 5″ handle length allows for single and two-handed ball-striking. If you are someone who is moving into pickleball from tennis, or someone who likes space on the handle for two-handed play then you will love the Onix React Pickleball Paddle. Likewise, the handle is covered in Onix’s perforated, cushion grip. Known to give a comfortable, but connected feel, the Onix grip will help you maintain firm control of the paddle, while the perforated surface will draw moisture away from your palm – perfect if you experience sweaty palms during gameplay.

The polypropylene base and Nomex insert to give you the best of both worlds so that you don’t have to make a choice between the varying core structures.
