There are a number of reasons that pickleball players opt for an elongated pickleball paddle. Most commonly, players want to increase the surface area of their paddle so that they have more space on the paddle to hit winning shots. However, elongated pickleball paddles are not only oversized simply to increase the paddle playing surface. Elongated pickleball paddles also extend your reach, minimize miss-hits and give more space for playing winning shots to those who place their finger/thumb on the paddle. They are also great for players who love to exchange quick shots in the kitchen – especially when you need to get down to smashes and spin shots quickly. Whatever your reasons for wanting to purchase an elongated pickleball paddle, it’s important to know what the best options are. Here at PickyPickleball.com, we review all of the best elongated pickleball paddles in our top 5 guide. Our guide shows you all of the best-oversized pickleball paddles on the market, focusing on paddles that have received 5-star feedback when players have tested them for control, spin, power, and touch.

1. Selkirk AMPED Invikta X5 FiberFlex Pickleball Paddle

Topping our best elongated pickleball paddles list is the Selkirk AMPED Invikta X5 FiberFlex Pickleball Paddle. The epic Invikta X5 is a middle-heavyweight paddle that was developed in association with national champion, Tyson McGuffin. Not only does it pack a punch, but it also maximizes reach, provides power and gives you great touch at the net. Selkirk AMPED Invikta X5 FiberFlex Pickleball Paddle

Check Price

The Selkirk AMPED Invikta X5 FiberFlex is a really well-designed paddle. It has been constructed to give players a large sweet spot, great movability on-court and importantly excellent reach around the net. In fact, unlike a lot of oversized pickleball paddles that don’t offer an extended handle to counteract the increased paddle weight, the Invikta X5 has a 5 1/4″ handle length – which works great. Like the S2 X5, the Invikta X5 has a fiberglass face, with a polymer honeycomb core. This mix of attributes means that shots pop off the paddle face, whilst also giving you control in defending hard shots from opponents. The paddle is also available in various weights. For those who like a lighter, middleweight paddle you can opt for a 7.3-7.8 ounce option, or for a heavier paddle there is also a 7.9 – 8.4 ounce option. This flexibility makes the Invikta X5 a brilliant paddle players who prefer every type of paddle weight. The Selkirk Invikta X5 is available in several color options, and looks great on-court. The paddle will also have you smashing winners from the back of the court, or defending the most difficult spin shots in no time. Retailing at $149.99, the Invikta X5 is well worth the investment for anyone looking at purchasing a 5-star elongated pickleball paddle. Standout Features
  • Developed in association with National Pickleball Champion, Tylor McGuffin
  • Large sweet spot, excellent movability and long reach
  • Fiberglass paddle face, with polymer core – excellent for controlling any shot type

2. Selkirk AMPED Omni X5 FiberFlex Pickleball Paddle

Check Price

The main difference between the Selkirk Invikta X5 and Omni X5 is the paddle width, grip length and paddle weight. The Invikta X5 weighs slightly more than the Omni X5 and is also a tiny bit shorter in length. However, both differences are very small and largely unnoticeable. The biggest difference is in fact, the shape and as a result, the grip length. The Omni X5 paddle has a 4 1/4″ handle vs the Invikta’s 5 1/4″ handle. Not only does this mean there is less handle to grip, but it also changes the paddle shape and hitting surface at the bottom of the paddle. Comparing the two side by side, deciding which to purchase really comes down to grip preference. If you like to place fingers up on the paddle, we prefer the Omni’s shorter grip. However, if you like to grip the handle tight and perhaps use two-hands, the Invikta wins it. Other than that, the Omni X5 is an awesome paddle for all of the same reasons as the Invikta. The paddle allows players to smash the ball, cushion defensive shots, and spin the pickleball ball with ease. The Omni X5 is available in a host of exciting colors and looks great on-court. Retailing at $149.99, the Omni X5 paddle is at the more expensive end of the market – but we’re sure you’ll love the investment once you start hitting balls. Standout Features
  • Shorter grip length with more hitting surface than the Invikta X5
  • Fiberglass face, with polymer core means shots pop off the paddle with power and precision
  • Large sweet spot and hitting area

Check Price

The GAMMA Needle is a great pickleball paddle. The paddle measures 16-5/8″ long and is 7-1/8″ wide. This makes the GAMMA Needle slightly slimmer than the Selkirk paddles, but in return, you get a paddle that feels lighter in your hand and less top-heavy. The graphite paddle face has been designed to create a brilliant sweet spot across the paddle that pings balls back at opponents at an alarming (in a good way) rate. The paddle features a small 4 1/4″ grip length, with a grip circumference of 4 1/8″making it easy for players to move with the paddle. What’s more, the core is a Sensa Poly Core which is designed to absorb shock and provide excellent control in defense. The GAMMA Needle has a really unique look on the court with its bright design. On top of this, it is a more affordable paddle than other elongated pickleball paddles, like the Poach Extreme and Selkirk paddles. If you’re a player who likes a lighter paddle, that still packs a punch, the GAMMA Needle is for you. Standout Features
  • Long, slim paddle face increase movability on-court
  • Sensa Poly Core absorbs shock, while graphite paddle face provides added ‘pop’ to your shots
  • Affordable price point for a great performing elongated pickleball paddle

Pro-Lite Rebel PowerSpin Composite Pickleball Paddle

Check Price

While the paddle is 16″ long with a 7 5/8″ paddle face width. These attributes make it a great paddle for the all-rounder who wants a mix of reach, power, spin, and control. The Pro-Lite Quadcore (TM) polymer core makes the paddle extremely durable and provides excellent shock and sound-reducing qualities. The paddle also sports a unique low-profile edge which increases the paddles hitting surface. Retailing at $104.99, the Pro-Lite Rebel PowerSpin offers exceptional value for money. We’re so happy to include the Rebel PowerSpin on our elongated pickleball paddle top-list and are sure you’ll love your decision if you decide to purchase. Standout Features

5. Poach Extreme Pickleball Paddle

Last but not least, the Poach Extreme Pickleball Paddle comes fifth on our elongated pickleball paddle list. This paddle contains technology you won’t find elsewhere, with a 6-layer paddle face and a Control Pro “Black” polymer core you need to consider this paddle. Poach Extreme Pickleball Paddle

Check Price

The main elements of the Poach Extreme paddle are the reactive paddle face that morphs and changes depending on the shot you’re playing. Poach’s long paddle face and slim profile mean you can smash shots from the back of the court, while the paddle plays in the kitchen and around the net as well as any. The 6-layer uni-direction composite paddle face provides epic ‘pop’ from the back of the court, while the light outer layer provides great spin at the net. What’s more, the Control Pro core absorbs shock and packs a punch when you need to add weight to your shots. The Poach Extreme comes either in a LITE (7.5 – 7.8 ounces) option or medium weight. The medium-weight option sits between 7.9 – 8.3 ounces, while the ultra-long 17″ paddle length and slim 7″ paddle width make the paddle easy to control while providing whip on your shots. The grip length also sits at 5″ which means you have extra reach around the net. The Poach Extreme comes in solid black or four other color options. And in our opinion is the best-looking paddle on our list. Retailing at $149.99 you will need to pay for the tech packed into this paddle. However, as a newcomer to the list, it’s well worth considering carefully against the historically more popular Selkirk models. Standout Features
  • 17″ paddle length and 7″ paddle width provide excellent reach and whip on power shots
  • 6-layer composite paddle face give ‘pop’ off the paddle face, while the lightly textured outer layer add spin
  • Beautifully designed paddle that looks great in any color option

Elongated Pickleball Paddles Buying Guide

Now that we have covered off our top 5 elongated pickleball paddles list, we turn our attention to our elongated paddle buying guide. The purpose of this guide is to give you the reasons for purchasing an elongated pickleball paddle, over and above standard-sized pickleball paddles. We take a look first at the advantages and disadvantages of elongated pickleball paddles.

Elongated Pickleball Paddle: Benefits

When it comes to picking out the benefits of elongated paddles over standard-sized paddles, there are a couple of key things to mention. Firstly, oversized paddles are great for improving reach on-court. If you are someone who wants to be able to reach that extra 5-6″ to retrieve a ball, or like to smash above your head then an oversized pickleball paddle is probably right for you. On top of this, elongated paddles create more whip when playing power shots and also give you a larger sweet spot to control the ball from.

Elongated Pickleball Paddle: Disadvantages

On the flip side, elongated pickleball paddles do force you to sacrifice other attributes. Oversized paddles are larger standard-sized paddle. That means you will get more resistance than you would do swinging a normal-sized paddle. On top of this, they tend to be heavier than their smaller counterparts. As such, you do sacrifice some mobility on-court playing with an oversized paddle. For anyone who likes lightweight, small grip paddles make sure that you pick an oversized paddle that is not too top-heavy as this will be detrimental to your play. Opt for a lighter paddle like the GAMMA Needle.

Weight

As we’ve mentioned, the weight of your oversized paddle will likely be greater than the standard-sized equivalent. Make sure you consider this before buying. If you are a player who prides themselves on speed around the court, then consider how an oversized paddle will impact you. Likewise, if you like wide paddles, then the longer face will combine to create more drag when you swing the paddle. This shouldn’t put you off an oversized pickleball paddle, but it’s always good to be aware of the drawbacks when buying.

Price

Last off, consider price before you buy. Due to the larger size of the oversized pickleball paddle, elongated paddles are often more expensive. Take the Selkirk oversized AMPED Paddles, they retail at close to $150.00. While this shouldn’t put you off if you’re comfortable investing in a great paddle, this does mean you’re paying more money for a paddle that you can get for less money in a smaller size. If you’re looking for cheap pickleball paddles, there are additional options for you.
